Jed Kurzel is an acclaimed composer and musician, known for his exceptional work in film scoring. He made his feature film debut with the critically-acclaimed Australian movie SNOWTOWN which earned him the Feature Film Score of the Year at the 2011 Screen Music Awards in Australia.
Jed has since composed scores for numerous notable films, including THE BABADOOK (Dir: Jennifer Kent), praised by The Exorcist director William Friedkin as the most “terrifying film” he had ever seen; SLOW WEST (Dir: John Maclean), which won Jed his second Australian Screen Music Award for Feature Film Score of the Year in 2015; MACBETH (Dir: Justin Kurzel), starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, which premiered in competition at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival; UNA (Dir: Benedict Andrews), an adaptation of David Harrower’s Olivier Award-winning play Blackbird starring Rooney Mara and Ben Mendelsohn; ASSASSIN’S CREED (Dir: Justin Kurzel); ALIEN: COVENANT (Dir: Ridley Scott); JUNIPER’S MOON (Dir: Kornél Mundruczó), which was nominated for the Palme d’Or at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival; THE NIGHTINGALE (dir: Jennifer Kent), OVERLORD (dir Julius Avery); NITRAM (Dir: Justin Kurzel); SAMARITAN (Di Julius Avery); THE POPE’S EXORCIST (dir: Julius Avery); TRUE HISTORY OF THE KELLY GANG (Dir: Justin Kurzel) starring Russell Crowe, Charlie Hunnam, Nick Hoult & George MacKay, in 2019 Gala Section Toronto International Film Festival; MUSTANG (Dir: Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre), starring Matthias Schoenaerts, Bruce Dern and Connie Britton; SEBERG (Dir: Benedict Andrews) starring Kristen Stewart, in competition in 2019 Toronto International Film Festival; MONKEY MAN (Dir Dev Patel) and THE ORDER (Dir Justin Kurzel) starring Jude Law and Nicholas Hoult which premiered in competition at the 2024 Venice Film Festival.
Jed has recently composed the music for the television adaptation of Richard Flanagan’s booker prize novel THE NARROW ROAD TO THE DEEP NORTH starring Jacob Elordi and Odessa Young for Curio Pictures and Amazon (Dir: Justin Kurzel) and TORNADO (dir John MacLean) starring Jack Lowden and Tim Roth.
