Gregor’s first short film. SWINGER (writer/director) won Best Film at the 1995 Tropicana Short Film Festival and the Jury Prize at Cannes Film Festival. He also wrote and directed the AFI nominated short film, STITCHED in 1996.
In 1999, his debut feature film TWO HANDS (writer/director) premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and went on to win five AFI Awards (including Best Film and Best Director and Best Original Screenplay). His second feature BUFFALO SOLDIERS (writer/director) starred Joaquin Phoenix, Ed Harris, Scott Glen and Anna Paquin and screened at many film festivals including Toronto, Edinburgh and Sundance and won best screenplay for Gregor at the British Independent Film Awards. Other films include NED KELLY (2003) starring Heath Ledger, Geoffrey Rush, Rachel Griffiths, Naomi Watts and Orlando Bloom; THE INFORMERS (2008) based on the book by Bret Easton Ellis, starring Kim Basinger, Billy Bob Thornton, Mickey Rourke; UNTHINKABLE (2010) starring Samuel L Jackson, Carrie-Anne Moss and Michael Sheen and DIRT MUSIC (2019) starring Kelly McDonald, Garrett Hedlund and David Wenham, based on the novel by Tim Winton, premiering at Toronto Film Festival.
Gregor has worked in TV as writer, director and executive producer. His credits include OLD SCHOOL (writer/director/EP, 2014) produced by Matchbox Productions for ABC TV, starring Bryan Brown and Sam Neill, the documentary IAN THORPE: THE SWIMMER (director, 2012) for ABCTV, AUSTRALIAN GANGSTER (Co-creator/producer/writer/director, 2018) produced by John and Dan Edwards for Channel 7 and director of all 6 episodes of NORTH SHORE (2022/23) produced by David Maher and David Taylor for Paramount + and ITV.
Gregor is married to actress Simone Kessell and has two beautiful sons.
