Gretel is a Sydney-based writer and graduate of NIDA’s MFA in Writing for Performance.
Here television credits include: three seasons of THE GREAT, starring Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult for HULU, for which she also served as the co-producer; CLASS OF ’07 for Amazon Studios; A SUNBURNT CHRISTMAS a TV movie for STAN; Season 3 & 4 of DOCTOR DOCTOR for Easy Tiger and Channel Nine, and the DOCTOR DOCTOR spin off web series, WELCOME TO WHYHOPE. Her new telemovie CHRISTMAS RANSOM will drop on STAN in December of this year.
Gretel’s playwriting credits include: A PERIOD PIECE for The OLD 505 Theatre; CARKING IT for NIDA’s 2018 season of student productions, THE BLOOD ON BLOODY BLOOD LADDER for ATYP at Griffin Theatre; and SHANDY’S CORNER for New Ghosts Theatre Company at Kings Cross Theatre. She was awarded the 2019 ATYP Co-commission for her play BATHORY BEGINS which had a season at THE JOAN, and was selected for ATYP’s National Studio and Fresh Ink Mentoring programs for 2017. Gretel was also one of the 2020 recipients of the Phillip Parsons Fellowship for Emerging Playwrights for which she developed a new play for Belvoir Theatre.
Along with her fellow writers on THE GREAT, Gretel was nominated for the Writers Guild of America’s Award for Best New Series and Best Comedy Series for 2021. She has also been nominated for two AWGIEs and one AACTA award for her work on THE GREAT and A SUNBURNT CHRISTMAS, respectively. Gretel currently has projects in development with Fremantle Australia, Jungle Entertainment and Century City Entertainment.
Her own original televisions series TOTALLY COMPLETELY FINE, which she wrote and executive produced, will launch on SUNDANCE NOW and STAN in April of 2023.
